Airplane and other funny Caleb stories

>> Thursday, December 18, 2008

I think someone is just a little excited to fly on an airplane in a couple of days. Last night Ryan and I sang at the YW in Excellence night. We got both the kids ready for bed before we left so that when we got home we could put them down. While we were there I brought a little star sugar cookie for Caleb to eat to keep him sitting while Ryan and I sang. He took a couple bits and then held it up and said airplane, (only 3 star prongs remained) and started to fly it around. And whenever we ask him if he wants to go on an airplane to see grandma and grandpa he runs and gets his shoes cause he wants to leave right away.

My mom is called Grandma Cat and Caleb can't really say Grandma but he can say cat so he just calls her cat. Well he now calls grandma Dixon cat as well, associating cat as grandma. But he now has taken it even further because he now calls any older lady he sees Cat, at Ryan's school, at the grocery store, even on T.V. It makes me laugh every time he says it.

Whenever Caleb gets hurt he always points to where he got hurt and says booboo in and very sad sounding voice. Well he's discovered his nipples and every time I take his shirt off to change it or get him in the bath he looks down and very sadly points to his nipples and says booboo.

We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave.

So I'm having a hard time getting into Christmas this year and with the weather being 80 degrees today and probably for the rest of the week, it's not helping. Now don't get me wrong I love nice warm weather but it's December 18th! It's not suppose to feel like this. I want it to be cold so I can bundle up in sweaters and drink hot chocolate by the fire and watch Christmas movies. Of course if I lived some where like in the picture above I don't think I'd be complaining but I live here,
in the hot sticky south and it almost seem comical to me to see Christmas decorations on people's houses when it doesn't feel like Christmas. Thank goodness we leave on Tuesday, I'm so ready to get out of here, for a little while. I hope everyone else is having a wonderful Christmasy filled December.

I'm an idiot

>> Tuesday, December 16, 2008

I hate being poor. But it's worse when I forget to pay rent and then balanced everything thinking I already paid rent. Then when your landlord says we can't find your check and you go back and rebalance everything and realize, wow we are really a lot poorer than I thought we were. It sucks and I'm an idiot.

Random Thoughts

>> Saturday, December 13, 2008

If your wondering what has happened to my engaging and thought-provoking posts, I'm sorry to let you down.  To be quite honest, I just don't know what to write about.  So, I thought I'd do a bit of catch up.

- As Stef posted below, I was selected to be on the moot court board for the law school.  I will be competing in a Trademark and Unfair Competition competition in February.  On the one hand I'm excited to participate since it is a pretty prestigious thing to be selected for.  But at the same time, I'm a little bitter that the competition is so soon, because that means that my Christmas break will be consumed with preparing the brief for our team, which is due in about three weeks.

- I am pretty much finished with finals for the semester.  I just have a take home final for my Bioethics class.  It is pretty easy, so I'm not worried about it.  As far as my other finals, I feel pretty good about them.  Civil Procedure was a breeze, even though it was incredibly long.  Statutory Interpretation was a great class, because the professor spent a good amount of time this semester focusing on things that I had spent time with during undergrad, i.e., the conventions of logic and how they are used in language.  My Intellectual Property class was by far my favorite this semester.  I just hope I did well on the final.  I didn't think it was all that difficult, but I don't know if that means that I just missed all the issues or if I was just that prepared for it.  Only time will tell.  Legal Writing II was definitely the busiest class this semester.  It is a 3 credit class, but for the amount of work that is done, it should be 4.

- As for other thoughts on my mind:

- I hope the economy is able to get some footing.  Otherwise I may never find a decent paying summer job.  If you are thinking about going to law school.  I would wait until the economy starts to pick up again.  Now is not a good time to be looking for jobs as a new attorney.

- I'm starting to see some results at the gym.  It feels good to be getting stronger and in better shape.

- I spent most of the morning shampooing the couch because Caleb threw up on it multiple times yesterday.  I think I may have to do it again, because it still stinks a little.

- Next year, if the ward calls Stef and I to be in the choir for the Christmas program, I will tell them that they can only have one of us at a time. We can't both sing in the choir and leave our kids on the bench.

- The iPhone is the greatest invention ever.

- Soft toilet paper is a close second

- Is anyone else sick of those DTV commercials?  TV should have gone digital a long time ago.

- I think I'll enjoy the holidays much better when I'm finished with school

Anyway, that's about it for now.  Sorry to bore everyone.

He made it!

>> Tuesday, December 9, 2008

I just want to say Congratulations to Ryan for making Moot Court! We just found out tonight that he made the team. For those of you who don't know what moot court is here's a little description:

"Moot court is an extracurricular activity at many law schools in which participants take part in simulated court proceedings, usually to include drafting briefs and participating in oral argument. "Moot court" differs from a "mock trial", as moot court usually refers to a simulated appellate court or arbitral case, while a "mock trial" usually refers to a simulated jury trial or bench trial. Moot court does not involve the examination of witness or the presentation of evidence; rather, it is focused solely on the application of the law to a common set of evidentiary assumptions to which the competitors must be introduced." (Wikipedia)

So Congratulations again to my Husband. You work so hard and I'm so proud of you. You deserve this.

B-I-N-G-O and Bingo was his name O

So I had another dog run in while running this morning. Two actually and they were small and friendly. Unfortunately I didn’t notice one of them till I cross a busy street and he thought he’d just follow me down the road. I kept waving my hand at him and telling him to go but he wouldn’t listen. Finally when the other dog came running over to play I stopped running and got them both to go home and stop following me. I watched them run back across the street and start playing with one another and then I turned around and picked my run back up. A couple seconds later I hear car tires squealing and a dog start to wine. I turned around and couldn’t see anything but I knew one of the dogs got hit. I felt so bad, but really it’s not my fault the stupid dogs decided to play in the street or for that matter the owner that let them run free outside. But still I felt really bad. I’m sure he lived but probably got pretty banged up.
